Viettel breaks ground on Vietnam's first semiconductor fab at Hoa Lac
On 16 January 2026, Viettel broke ground on what Vietnamese and international reports call Vietnam's first semiconductor fabrication plant. The site is at Hoa Lac Hi-Tech Park, on the edge of Hanoi. The Investor, a Vietnamese business outlet, reported the ceremony that day.

What was announced
The plant covers about 27 hectares, according to The Investor and VnExpress. Both say it will start at the 32-nanometre node. ITPC, a Ho Chi Minh City government trade body, lists aerospace, telecommunications, automotive and medical equipment as target uses.
Viettel plans to finish construction and technology transfer, and to start trial production, by the end of 2027. From 2028 to 2030 it plans to refine the process and raise line efficiency.
The Investor says Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh addressed the ceremony. Reuters, as carried by The Star, quotes Viettel as saying the plant will let Vietnam take part in all six stages of the semiconductor value chain.
