ISO publishes new editions of ISO 14644-13 and ISO 14644-14
On 25 February 2026, ISO published second editions of two cleanroom standards. ISO 14644-13:2026 covers cleaning of surfaces. ISO 14644-14:2026 covers how to assess equipment for cleanroom use by airborne particle concentration. They replace the 2017 and 2016 editions.

ISO 14644-13:2026 on cleaning of surfaces
The standard runs to 32 pages. It gives guidance on cleaning cleanroom surfaces, equipment surfaces and material surfaces to a specified level. It helps users judge cleaning methods against surface cleanliness by particle concentration (SCP) and by chemical concentration (SCC). For test methods it points to ISO 14644-9 and ISO 14644-10.
It does not classify cleaning methods and does not describe detailed cleaning procedures.
ISO 14644-14:2026 on equipment suitability
Source for this section is the national catalogue entry for the standard, which gives the date 25 February 2026 and 20 pages. The standard sets a method to assess whether equipment suits a cleanroom. Equipment here means machinery, measuring equipment, process equipment, components and tools.
The assessment is about airborne particle cleanliness under ISO 14644-1, for particle sizes from 0.1 µm to 5 µm and larger. It leaves out biocontamination, decontamination agents, cleanability, equipment design, material selection and local safety rules.
What a facility owner should check next
Check which edition your specifications and contracts cite. Any text that names the 2016 or 2017 edition needs a review.
Then look at your cleaning procedures. Do they state the surface cleanliness level you want, and how you test it? Ask equipment suppliers how they assessed their machines for particles. Part 14 leaves out biocontamination, so you will need other documents for that.
