Kazakhstan approves a 42.5 billion tenge pharmaceutical plant in the Karaganda region
On 15 May 2026, Kazakhstan's government approved a pharmaceutical plant project in the Karaganda region. Interfax reports that Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov signed the resolution. The government calls the 42.5 billion tenge private investment. Interfax puts it at about USD 89.7 million, at the official rate of 474.04 tenge to the dollar on that day.

What was announced

The Health Ministry signed an investment agreement with Karaganda Pharmaceutical Complex LLP. Interfax calls it one of the country's key pharmaceutical enterprises. The plant is to make 74 types of medicines. They include new drugs for cancer, autoimmune diseases and rare diseases. The plan also covers synthesis of active pharmaceutical ingredients. It adds biological and biotechnological products, to be made to international standards.
The report adds sector figures. Drug output reached 191.1 billion tenge in 2025, up 8.7 percent on 2024. Since December 2025, seven investment agreements worth 360 billion tenge have been signed. They aim at 474 types of medicines.
What the reports leave out

What a facility owner or supplier should check next
