BYD plans a bus battery expansion and a grid storage line in Brazil

BYD will spend 50 million to 60 million reais to expand a bus battery line. It is also preparing to spend up to 500 million reais, about USD 98 million, on a new line for battery energy storage systems that support the power grid. BYD has about 90 days to decide whether to put that line in its Manaus plant, which now makes bus batteries, or to build a new site elsewhere.
Baldy said BYD wants 50 percent local content in its Brazil-made cars by the start of 2027. The report recalls BYD's earlier plan of 5.5 billion reais for its Camaçari plant in Bahia. Local passenger car battery production is part of that plan. The report adds that BYD has no plans for now to develop its lithium rights in Brazil, because lithium prices are low.
What the report leaves out
The CnEVPost reprint gives no output figure for either line. It names no site for the storage line. It gives no build dates and no room targets.
What a facility owner or supplier should check next
A battery area may be specified on more than particle counts. Ask the owner for temperature, humidity and particle targets for each area.
For the storage line, wait for the site decision before you size anything. An expanded line means new rooms next to running production, so ask how the work will be phased.
