AIXTRON agrees a greenfield factory with cleanrooms in Penang

What was announced

MIDA issued the release in Kuala Lumpur on 5 May 2026, at SEMICON Southeast Asia 2026. AIXTRON has taken an 8.5-acre plot at Bandar Cassia Technology Park. The plan is a three-storey office building, multiple cleanrooms and dedicated logistics areas.

MIDA's chief executive called the project a centrepiece of Malaysia's New Industrial Master Plan 2030. The design is modular, so the site can grow in steps as demand grows. The plant will make AIXTRON's 100 mm, 150 mm and 200 mm products. MIDA describes the technology as front-end MOCVD equipment, meaning metal-organic chemical vapour deposition. The release lists power electronics, communications, optoelectronics and computing among the end uses.

What the release does not say

The release gives no investment amount. It gives no count, size or class for the cleanrooms, and no dates for construction or opening.

The release describes a factory making AIXTRON's own products, which it calls MOCVD equipment. It does not describe a wafer fab.

What a facility owner or supplier should check next

Because the design expands in steps, plan the shell and utilities for later phases early. Ask the owner which rooms are needed in the first phase and which can wait. Ask for the class, pressure and temperature target of each room, and for the order in which they will be built. Ask, too, how the first rooms will connect to the later ones.
