A quote listing a panel core and thickness does not identify every joint, seal or interface in the room. Ask for a drawing package and a responsibility schedule before treating two panel offers as equivalent.
What the manufacturer examples show
Kingspan’s North American KS base detail CS-BS-05-KSV distinguishes warm-side joint sealing, an optional washdown seal and substrate compatibility. It is system-specific, not a ZY installation detail.
Kingspan’s Australian K-PIR page states that the panel side joint can accommodate vapour or hygiene-safe seals. Confirm the seals specified for the proposed system.
Use these examples to ask better questions. Obtain the proposed panel system’s own drawings and instructions. This guide does not specify sealant chemistry, application sides, bead sizes, fastener spacing or a condensation performance guarantee.
Request a detail for each interface
- Panel side joint
- Wall base and floor
- Wall-to-ceiling and corners
- Door opening
- Service penetration
- Existing building connection
| Interface | Document or answer to request |
|---|---|
| Panel side joint | Joint section, orientation and identification of the seals included in the offer. |
| Wall base and floor | Base section showing the agreed floor interface, seal continuity and work by others. |
| Wall-to-ceiling and corners | Connection drawings identifying the proposed panel junctions and seal transitions. |
| Door opening | Opening detail, frame interface and division of responsibilities between panel and door suppliers. |
| Service penetration | Penetration schedule and the party responsible for the proposed closure and sealing details. |
| Existing building connection | Survey reference, substrate information and the proposed detail for the connection to existing work. |
Example: review one wall-base detail
Illustrative enquiry row, not a customer project: J-02 is the wall-base/floor interface. Ask each bidder to identify the proposed detail drawing and revision, seal materials, substrate compatibility confirmation, the parties supplying and installing the items, and the requested inspection record. Record each missing item with the party answering it and a response date. Two panel prices do not establish that this interface has the same agreed scope.
Agree who reviews and records the work
Ask the project designer to confirm operating conditions and applicable detailing. Ask the proposed installer to identify substrate preparation, material compatibility, installation sequence and inspection records against that system’s instructions. Record unresolved items as “To confirm”; assign an owner and a response date. A photograph alone does not establish a vapour-tight assembly or completed acceptance testing.
Prepare a joint-detail enquiry
Use the worksheet to request documents and define supply boundaries. It is a procurement record, not an approved design or installation method.
